A Note about war grave insignia
A special process is required to apply for and receive permission to use Returned Services and Military insignia on a Memorial Plaque.
You need to contact Office of Australian War Graves, Po Box 21, Woden, ACT 2606 or phone (02) 62 89 111.
How a bronze plaque is made
An age-old tradition that requires many skills and time...
A bronze plaque goes through several stages of production and passes through many hands from the time it is ordered to the time it is delivered. Each plaque is individually
made - this gives each one a unique character.A designer creates a computer Iayout.
Then a negative of the plaque design artwork is prepared and printed.
We use the negative to produce an exact plastic pattern. This is used to make a sand mould of the plaque.
Once the mould is set, it is checked and cleaned ready for the molten bronze. The extremely hot metal is poured by hand by our skilled craftspeople into the mould. Once it has cooled, the casting is removed, cleaned and inspected. Any special fittings are added at this stage. The plaque is then finished with a specially formulated baked enamel.
A final quality inspection follows and then the plaque is assigned for packing and delivery. The whole process varies in accordance with design and regulatory requirements; however, the typical process can span 6 weeks from receipt of order to delivery.
