Macquarie Park Cemetery and Crematorium at North Ryde is encouraging amateur photographers with a deep interest in history and nature to enter its 2011 photography competition.
This second competition invites budding photographers and lovers of something ‘a little different’ to capture what a cemetery means to them. It can be a very beautiful place - full of tranquillity and charm.
Using this theme, photographers can interpret how a cemetery (or crematorium) inspires them to honour the deceased in a respectful and beautiful manner. There are approx 104,000 burials at Macquarie Park, the first being in 1922. Many of the monuments are a testament to the lives of those interred, and to our own history.
There is one important stipulation - no actual name on a grave, monument or plaque may be visible to the viewer of the photo.
Judged by a panel of experts including the chief photographer from the North Shore Times, prizes include:
1st prize- $5002nd prize - $300 3rd prize - $150
These prizes will be awarded in each of these two categories:
1. Students at School (under 18) 2 Open Section ( 18 years and over)
